The Emergency Medical Service (EMS) system is responsible for providing pre-hospital (or out-of-hospital) care by paramedics, emergency medical technicians, and medical first responders. The EMS flag has the star of life, a global symbol of medical service. The Star of Life is a blue, six-pointed star, outlined with a white border which features the Rod of Asclepius in the center.
